How to calculate what you spend on heated tobacco sticks

A pack price is easy to overlook one purchase at a time. Turning it into a monthly estimate can make the habit easier to understand — and give a personal savings goal a concrete starting point.

Use your price, not a country-wide guess

Start with the price you actually pay and the number of sticks in that pack. Divide the price by the pack size to get an estimated cost per stick. Prices can differ by brand, shop and date, so examples on a website are not a substitute for your receipt.

If a 20-stick pack costs ¥600, the cost per stick is ¥30. At 15 sticks a day, that is ¥450 a day or ¥13,500 over a 30-day month. These are illustrative inputs, not current Japanese retail prices.

Calculate a change in use

Subtract your planned daily count from your starting daily count. Multiply the difference by the cost per stick. That gives the daily spending difference if you follow that exact pattern.

For a second example, a €7 pack of 20 means €0.35 per stick. A change from 15 to 10 sticks a day represents €1.75 per day, or €52.50 over 30 days. This is arithmetic based on an example, not a recommendation to use 10 sticks or a promise of money saved.

Separate a forecast from your record

The website calculator is a what-if tool: it projects a fixed daily change over 30 or 365 days. A real reduction plan may change each day, and your actual use may differ. Treat its annual number as a scenario rather than a forecast.

Inside Unheated, savings estimates use days you confirm as complete. That keeps an unlogged day from silently counting as a tobacco-free day. Changes to your pack price can change the estimate. The app does not read bank transactions or verify purchases.

Choose a currency without confusing it with exchange rates

Select the currency you pay in, then enter the matching local price. Choosing yen after entering a euro price does not convert euros into yen. You need to replace the pack price with the amount from your local purchase.

For travel or a permanent currency change, keep records of the prices that matter to you. Unheated is a personal estimate, not a multi-currency accounting system. The website calculator does not send your inputs to a server or save them after you leave the page.

Put a real goal next to the estimate

A goal can be modest: a meal out, a book, a day trip or a little less pressure on your budget. Choose something that matters to you and review it alongside your record.

Remember that money retained depends on what you actually buy. Other spending, substitute products and price changes are not included in a stick-cost calculation. Your quit attempt is still worthwhile on days when the number is small.
